Year 5 Design and Technologies Resource
Design and Technologies should encourage students to use design thinking and technologies to generate and produce designed solutions for authentic needs and opportunities
In this tab, you will find resources that may help you teach ACTDEK023 to a year 5 class (ACTDEK023 is a content description code from Technology within The Australian Curriculum).
The content description suggests that students will: Investigate characteristics and properties of a range of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment and evaluate the impact of their use (ACTDEK023) Below is a resource designed to support teaching ACTDEK023: |

Exploring materials when paper plane makingPaper planes can be made out of all sorts of different materials. Which ones have you tried? Maybe you could try making the same kind of paper plane using different materials and see which one flies best. Have a look around your home or in your classroom for materials to try. How about newspaper? Or cardboard? Or you could do what Dylan did and try using aluminium foil. You could even try using some old junk mail or wrapping paper, or even some baking paper or paper towel. Which material works best? Why do you think it works best?

It contains material to assist planning and implementing a study of where farmers live, where our meat and wool comes from, technologies used in production and resource management, and how farm environment and practices affect production. The tasks in this resource are based around three virtual farms of three Australian families. As well as a Virtual Farm learning object, there are links to images, videos, factsheets as well as a comprehensive fast facts section.
